The plot: Ruby Gillman is a sweet and awkward high school student who discovers she’s a direct descendant of the warrior kraken queens. The kraken are sworn to protect the oceans of the world against the vain, power-hungry mermaids. Destined to inherit the throne from her commanding grandmother, Ruby must use her newfound powers to protect those she loves most.
This film was alright.
Pros: The voice acting were so good. Ruby was a likeable character to routing for. I like how they updated there opening credit and that’s it.
Cons: The story felt like I already seen forever. The reveal of main villain was not that surprising to me.
Voice Cast:
- Lana Condor as Ruby Gillman, a shy freshman who is desperate to fit in at Oceanside High even if she is a kraken. She is described as “a really normal teenager”.

- Annie Murphy as Chelsea Van Der Zee/Queen Nerissa, a snobbish Canadian-accented mermaid-turned-human who is the popular new girl at Oceanside High, and secretly the evil queen of the mermaids with a vendetta against the Gillman family.

Additionally, Echo Kellum and Nicole Byer respectively voice Doug and Janice. YouTubers Preston and Bri Arsement, and film critic Juju Green voice a tourist, a home-buyer, and a gym teacher respectively.
