Plot: A man fights for peace at any cost, no matter how many people he has to kill to get it.

I was so looking forward to this Suicide Squad spin-off since I heard about it last year.

Season 1 of Peacemaker was Very Good.

Pros: This show nailed the balance of making an anti-hero really compelling. It does feel similar to Deadpool. His crew are a joy and that blends well with Peacemaker. He swears a lot which is quite funny & The Opening Credits were both entertaining and surreal.

Cons: The opening credits also made me feel uncomfortable because I am not used to seeing super hero’s dance!  I wish the villains had a better role, which I feel would have made this show a lot better and nearer to becoming a great show.

Cast & Characters:

Main:

  • John Cena as Christopher Smith / Peacemaker:
jingoistic killer who believes in achieving peace at any cost.
  • Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo:
The daughter of A.R.G.U.S. leader Amanda Waller and a member of Project Butterfly.
  • Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase / Vigilante:
A self-proclaimed crimefighter who looks up to Peacemaker like an older brother. Unlike his comic book depiction as a superhero, Peacemaker‘s Vigilante is a foolish sociopath, willing to kill any lawbreaker regardless of the severity of their crime.
  • Chukwudi Iwuji as Clemson Murn (season 1):
A mercenary and the leader of Project Butterfly who reports directly to Waller. He is secretly a Butterfly himself.
  • Jennifer Holland as Emilia Harcourt:
An A.R.G.U.S. agent who is assigned to Project Butterfly by Waller. The series develops a relationship between Harcourt and Peacemaker that Gunn said was not a “love relationship” but also “not not that either”, with the television format allowing for a more complicated dynamic to be explored between them than a film would have allowed.
  • Steve Agee as John Economos:
An A.R.G.U.S. agent who provides tactical support for Project Butterfly.
  • Robert Patrick as August “Auggie” Smith / White Dragon (season 1):
Peacemaker’s racist father who supplies him with technology to aid his mission.

Recurring:

  • Annie Chang as Sophie Song: An Evergreen police detective who investigates Peacemaker’s activities.
  • Lochlyn Munro as Larry Fitzgibbon: Song’s police partner.
  • Elizabeth Ludlow as Keeya Adebayo: Leota’s wife.
  • Nhut Le as Judomaster: A bodyguard who specializes in martial arts and works for Senator Royland Goff.
  • Christopher Heyerdahl as Caspar Locke: An associate of Murn who masquerades as the new Evergreen police captain to undermine Song’s investigation.

Additionally, Dee Bradley Baker voices Peacemaker’s pet eagle Eagly in a recurring role.

Guest:

  • Rizwan Manji as Jamil: A janitor who works at the hospital where Peacemaker was admitted.
  • Mel Tuck as Auggie’s elderly neighbor.
  • Alison Araya as Amber Calcaterra: An Evergreen citizen and Evan’s wife.
  • Lenny Jacobson as Evan Calcaterra: An Evergreen citizen and Amber’s husband.
  • Antonio Cupo as Royland Goff: A United States Senator and the Butterfly leader.

I highly recommend watching this first season wherever you can find it.

Rating: 8.5 out of 10 Stars
