Plot: 12-year-old modern demigod, Percy Jackson, is coming to terms with his newfound divine powers when the sky god, Zeus, accuses him of stealing his master lightning bolt; with his friend’s help, Percy must restore order to Olympus.
Season 1 of Percy Jackson and the Olympians was Good.
Pros: The three main characters worked incredibly well together. I enjoy this show’s slow burn journey to Percy becoming a hero. I’m glad seeing Adam Copeland showing up his acting skills in a biggest role such as Ares. Its full of intensity & emotion and I like the twists shown in the finale.
Cons: I didn’t like the material of its story this season. There’s a lot of bad green-screen effects and the final confrontation with Ares did feet underwhelming in my opinion.
Casts & Characters:
Main:
- Walker Scobell as Percy Jackson, a young demigod and son of Poseidon
- Leah Jeffries as Annabeth Chase, a daughter of Athena who has been training at Camp Half-Blood for five years
- Aryan Simhadri as Grover Underwood, Percy’s best friend and a satyr disguised through magic as a 12-year-old boy
Recurring:
- Virginia Kull as Sally Jackson, Percy’s selfless mother
- Glynn Turman as Chiron / Mr. Brunner, a centaur disguised as Percy’s Latin teacher. While the character only pretends to be disabled to disguise himself among humans by using a magical wheelchair, the character has a disability in the form of a brace in his hind left leg as a war injury. The creators made this change to address disability, though they noted it would be “just a detail” during the first season.
- Jason Mantzoukas as Dionysus / Mr. D, the god of wine and curmudgeonly director of Camp Half-Blood
- Megan Mullally as Alecto / Mrs. Dodds, Percy’s stern mathematics teacher who secretly serves the god Hades as one of the three Furies
- Timm Sharp as Gabe Ugliano, Sally’s husband and Percy’s stepfather. Unlike in the books, he is not abusive as the creators felt that it wouldn’t fit the tone of the show, but noted that he’s “still an idiot”.
- Dior Goodjohn as Clarisse La Rue, a strong-willed daughter of Ares who bullies Percy
- Charlie Bushnell as Luke Castellan, a cunning swordsman and the counsellor of the Hermes cabin
- Adam Copeland as Ares, the arrogant and daring god of war
- Andrew Alvarez as Chris Rodriguez, son of Hermes and Luke’s half-brother
Guest:
- Olivea Morton as Nancy Bobofit, a blunt teacher’s pet who relishes tormenting Percy
- Suzanne Cryer as Echidna, the menacing mother of monsters
- Sara J. Southey as Tisiphone, a member of the Furies
- Jessica Parker Kennedy as Medusa, a gorgon who lives in solitude and has a past with Percy’s father
- Lin-Manuel Miranda as Hermes, the messenger of the gods
- Jay Duplass as Hades, the god of the underworld
- Timothy Omundson as Hephaestus, the blacksmith of the gods
- Lance Reddick as Zeus, the ferocious king of the Olympians whose thunderbolt has been stolen. This will be Reddick’s final television appearance, following his death in March 2023.
- Toby Stephens as Poseidon, Percy’s father and god of the sea who is stubborn and impulsive
I recommend watching this season only on Disney+ to anyone who still care about this material.
