The plot: Thirty years after the Rescue Rangers series ended production, Chip works as an insurance salesman while Dale has had “CGI surgery” and works the convention circuit in hopes of reliving his glory days. When their former castmate Monterey Jack mysteriously disappears, Chip and Dale must reunite with the rest of the group, save their friend and rebuild the two’s friendship.
This Chip n Dale Rescue Rangers movie was so great.
Pros: I like how they are able to craft this world where humans and cartoon co. existed so well, as surprised cameos within the background. The two voice actors who played Chip and Dale perceptively were perfectly put together. They crossed so many references to so many things that were associated with show-business & the film kept me smiling thought-out.
Cons: At times I paused the film to have a break & nothing else.
The Casts:
- John Mulaney as Chip, the fearless, optimistic, mature leader and co-founder of the Rescue Rangers, with a strong moral standard.
- Andy Samberg as Dale, Chip’s happy-go-lucky best friend and co-founder of the Rescue Rangers, who usually acts before thinking. Dale’s present-day appearance is depicted with photorealistic computer-animation rather than cel-shaded animation like the other members of the team. It was explained in the movie as “getting CGI surgery,” the equivalent to a plastic surgery.
- KiKi Layne as Ellie Whitfield, a rookie detective and avid fangirl of the Rescue Rangers.
- Will Arnett as Sweet Pete, a middle-aged and overweight version of Peter Pan and the main antagonist
- Eric Bana as Monterey Jack, a cheese-loving Australian mouse and a member of the Rescue Rangers.
- Flula Borg as Officer Viper, an LAPD snake officer.
- Keegan-Michael Key as Bjornson the Cheesemonger, a talking puppet.
- Tress MacNeille as Gadget Hackwrench, an inventive mouse and member of the Rescue Rangers, who is the daughter of Geegaw Hackwrench, a close friend of Monterey Jack. MacNeille reprises her role from the original series.
- MacNeille also voices Chip’s chipmunk voice, briefly reprising her role from the original series.
- Tim Robinson as Dr. X-7400, a robotic doctor who gave Dale his CGI surgery.
- Robinson also voices Ugly Sonic, the original character design from the 2020 feature film, Robinson replaces Ben Schwartz from the 2020 film.
- Seth Rogen as Bob, a motion capture Viking dwarf.
- Rogen also reprises his role as Pumbaa from the 2019 version of The Lion King.
- J. K. Simmons as Captain Putty, a claymation police detective who is a close friend of Chip and Dale.
- Chris Parnell as Dave Bollinari, Dale’s agent.
- Dennis Haysbert as Jimmy, a polar bear henchman.
- Haysbert also voices Zipper, a housefly and member of the Rescue Rangers, who is Monterey Jack’s longtime friend and sidekick.
Corey Burton briefly reprises both roles of Dale’s chipmunk voice and Zipper’s intelligible buzzes from the original series.
I highly recommend watching this film only on Disney+ to anyone who grew up with Chip n Dale.
