The plot: Nearly 5,000 years after he was bestowed with the almighty powers of the Egyptian gods — and imprisoned just as quickly — Black Adam is freed from his earthly tomb, ready to unleash his unique form of justice on the modern world.
This was one of my most anticipated film of this year.
The Black Adam Movie was Descent.
Pros: The film was so action-packed with so much slow motion. Dwayne Johnson did well with this film version of Black Adam with what he was given. The one Justice Society of America (JSA) member that stood out to me was Pierce Brosnan as Dr. Fate. I like some of the music was used and it had a lot going on but somehow manages to be enough to still enjoy myself tonight & (Spoiler-Alert) the mid-credit sense was great.
Cons: The rest of the Justice Society of America (JSA) was pretty disposable (The JSA should have their own movie or TV Show instead). The villain Sabbac was really bad.My reason why I didn’t rate this one highly because the negative response from all the DC news this year.
Cast & Characters:
- Dwayne Johnson as Teth-Adam / Black Adam: An antihero from Kahndaq who was imprisoned for 5,000 years. Similar to the superhero Shazam, he has had bestowed upon him the powers of various Egyptian gods from the ancient wizard of the same name. Johnson previously portrayed the character in Shazam! (2019) in a facial cameo role, and voiced the character in a post-credits cameo (alongside his protagonist role as Krypto, and additional cameo role as Black Adam’s dog Anubis) in DC League of Super-Pets (2022).
- Aldis Hodge as Carter Hall / Hawkman: The leader of the Justice Society of America (JSA).
- Noah Centineo as Albert “Al” Rothstein / Atom Smasher: A young member of the JSA who can control his molecular structure and manipulate his size and strength.
- Sarah Shahi as Adrianna Tomaz: A university professor and resistance fighter in Kahndaq.
- Marwan Kenzari as Ishmael Gregor / Sabbac: A militant leader of the criminal organization Intergang, whom Adam must work with the JSA to bring down after becoming Sabbac.
- Quintessa Swindell as Maxine Hunkel / Cyclone: A member of the JSA who can control wind and generate sound. As the granddaughter of Abigail “Ma” Hunkel / Red Tornado, she seeks to live up to her familial superhero legacy. Swindell studied dancing techniques when designing their character’s movement.
- Bodhi Sabongui as Amon Tomaz: Adrianna’s son.
- Pierce Brosnan as Kent Nelson / Doctor Fate: A member of the JSA and the son of an archeologist who learned sorcery and was given the magical Helmet of Fate called Nabu. Brosnan wore a motion capture suit for the role.
- Jalon Christian and Uli Latukefu as Hurut / Teth-Adam: Black Adam’s son and the original champion of Kahndaq, deemed pure of heart to wield the power and name of Shazam (the wisdom of Solomon, the strength of Hercules, the stamina of Atlas, the power of Zeus, the courage of Achilles, and the speed of Mercury), before bequeathing his powers to his father.
Additionally, Mohammed Amer portrays Karim, Adrianna’s brother, while James Cusati-Moyer portrays Samir, a colleague of Adrianna and Karim. Several actors also reprise their roles from previous DCEU media, including Djimon Hounsou as Shazam, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Jennifer Holland as Emilia Harcourt, and Henry Cavill as Kal-El / Clark Kent / Superman, the latter in an uncredited cameo appearance during the mid-credit scene. Henry Winkler cameos via FaceTime as Atom Smasher’s uncle Al Pratt, the previous Atom who lent the suit to Albert.
I am recommended anyone watching this film to anyone who is feeling down seeing anything related to the DC brand.
